We have received a request (which was mentioned at the MFCHA meeting in Dallas recently by MFCHA Vice Convener, Andrea Fuller) from Andrew Mackenzie, Badminton Scotland, (also working with Moray Council) to let you know about a proposed Moray Badminton Friendly Competition/Festival which might be of interest to halls which have Badminton markings.
We quote from his email:
“Family Event– Players can bring their children or grandchildren to play with or against each players to bring younger and older members of the communities together.
Open Event– The players from interested club village halls play against each other in a friendly environment, there’s no league, seeded teams/players, just players to come together to play for fun. This could be broken up as juniors playing for two hours and then the adult section then playing for 2 hours, or we could have just one big event where we invite schools to participate.
We were thinking of having 2 or 3 of these events spread out in the badminton season in different areas during the weekend, for example- Elgin, Keith, Forres.
Another option is a friendly league where the clubs get in contact with each other to set up matches either during the season. This would mean a committee to look after scores and I think this could be seen in the long term, however if there is people willing to set up a committee then I would certainly support it.
I can set up a survey for the participants to fill out and see what the feedback would be like. This is a start to connect with the clubs in the village halls across Moray and build on our working relationship with them.”
Mr Mackenzie has suggested that if you wish to express an interest in this please contact him either via his email, Facebook or on Twitter.
