Scottish Government – What should local government look like?

What should local government look like?

The Scottish Government are asking for the views of people across Scotland about government in their local areas. They will be gathering suggestions and feedback on local decision-making arrangements and collating these into a national ‘conversation’ with an aim to improving the current structures and protocols available in local areas.

The exercise is taking place now and will run until November 2018. Responses will then be reviewed and considered for inclusion in the Local Democracy Bill 2019 which the Scottish Government have committed to delivering. This is your opportunity to contribute directly in shaping important legislation that could have considerable impact on the governance of your local area for years to come.

SRA have prepared a set of questions for you to answer on this conversation so we can help the Scottish Government to receive as many responses as possible from Scotland’s rural communities. It will only take you a few minutes; this is your chance to tell the Scottish Government what does and what doesn’t work in your area and how things should be run!

Please help us circulate this as widely as possible; further information is available here and we will be publishing information about the discussion events we will be hosting at the Scottish Parliament this November. The more responses that we have and the more ideas you share, the better we can help the Scottish Government to make the changes necessary for our rural communities.
